In this session, we will discuss opioid use disorder, how to recognize patients at risk, how to mitigate risk, and how to use naloxone to save some lives!  This is an important topic that you will encounter in almost any practice setting.
Learning Objectives
1) Analyze a patient case and identify behaviors that suggestive of opioid misuse
2) Recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose
3) Identify risk factors for opioid related death, including high dose regimens and drug combinations commonly associated with opioid related death
4) Apply the CDC and Arizona guidelines to optimize the use of opioids and mitigate harm associated with these agents
5) Counsel patients and caregivers regarding the use of naloxone (view videos for the intranasal and intramuscular kits/devices)
6) Compare and contrast available medications for opioid use disorder including methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone.
