Learning Objectives
1) Describe how iron is absorbed and used in the body
2) Analyze biomarkers to categorize different types of anemia (Tsat, TIBC, serum ferritin, etc...)
3) Differentiate between available iron replacement products based on tolerability, route of administration, and place in therapy
4) Describe potential toxicities from excessive iron supplementation
*5) Identify a patient suspected of having ITP or drug induced thrombocytopenia based on presenting signs, symptoms, and laboratory data
*6) Develop a treatment plan for a patient with ITP and hemorrhage (first line for ITP and combo of drugs for hemorrhagic ITP)
*Since these topics were not covered in class, they will not be the focus on the exam questions.
