This session will be a brief introduction to coagulation disorders. This is a cluster of diseases with a variety of specialized treatment options available. Fortunately, coagulation disorders are somewhat uncommon. Since this is the second topic in a one hour session, we are going to focus on big picture concepts so you know what to look for if you see these agents in practice.
Learning objectives
1) Determine if a coagulation disorder should be classified as thrombophilic or hemophilic
2) Given a clinical scenario, develop an appropriate therapeutic plan for a patient with hemophilia A or B who presents with severe, life threatening bleeding
3) Describe the role of FEIBA and Factor VIIa in patients with hemophilia who have developed inhibitors
